What to write in a new baby card?

Celebrate the baby-on-the-way or freshly arrived cutie with a card. Not sure what to say to the new parents? Below are a few ideas for what to write in that new baby card.

Do:

  • Include the baby's name! The parents spent a lot of time choosing the new baby's name. Make sure to include it in the card.
  • Consider a simple sentiment: "Welcome to the world, baby Evelyn!" Or "We're so happy for you. Welcome to parenthood!"
  • Consider adding something funny, a show of solidarity or a sweet sentiment.

Don't:

  • Don't misspell the baby's name! Ask around to mutual friends, family members or coworkers if you're unsure.
  • Avoid talking about the hardest parts of parenthood in a negative light. This is a time for celebration.

So, a funny card might sound something like:

Mackenzie and Tim,

Sleep is for the weak and I've heard you just acquired a new in-house strength trainer. Welcome, baby Olivia!

And, a supportive card might sound something like:

James and Tim,

Parenthood is the most incredible, heart-wrenching, inspiring, hair-pulling, beautiful and life-changing adventure. And we're going to be here for you and baby Charlotte through all of those ups and downs. You've got this. Congratulations.

And, a sentimental card might sound something like:

Isabella and Mark,

Congratulations! Baby Oscar has just arrived in the most loving family! We can't wait to shower him with love, too.
